In the spring of 2018, the UnionWare Discovery team spent a week in Kansas City visiting the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers. The IBB had used their custom-built membership system for many years, and sought a modern and mobile-friendly replacement that could accommodate extensive data and processing needs.
Our interviews included staff from many departments, and we learned not only how each one used their data, but also how we might help make their work easier. The Boilermakers were gracious hosts, which helped the five days fly by quickly, after which we returned to Winnipeg to prepare our proposal.
A brief return visit included a presentation where we highlighted the benefits UnionWare could help them realize: their data centralized; countless processes optimized; transfer between external systems automated; consolidated online application forms; and access by users at the local lodge and regional levels to data and reports in real time.
After several months of negotiations and working out the details, we are thrilled to announce that the Boilermakers have agreed to an implementation of UnionWare! They join our growing list of International union customers. Team Pathfinder began this complex project this past fall, and everyone is excited to see the results as we progress toward their go-live.
The International Brotherhood of Boilermakers represents workers employed in heavy industry, shipbuilding, manufacturing, railroads, cement, mining, and related industries throughout the United States and Canada. Their members construct and repair electric power plants, refineries, pulp and paper mills, and steel mills. They also build naval ships and commercial tankers, repair locomotives, make cement, and mine coal, gypsum, and talc, and forge tools for industry and make consumer goods. Organized in 1880, they are one of the oldest unions in the United States, headquartered in Kansas City, Kansas (since 1893), and service more than 200 local lodges across North America. boilermakers.org
